Significant rainfall in Hesse's Mittelgebirge regions over a 24-hour period, with some areas receiving up to 20 liters per square meter, has led to flooding in multiple locations, exacerbated by melting snow. The Hessian State Office for Nature, Environment, and Geology reported that six water levels have reached alert level 1, with further increases anticipated. The German Weather Service (DWD) forecasts continued heavy rain through Monday night, with potential for 10-25 liters per square meter, and even higher amounts in elevated areas due to combined rain and snowmelt. While Tuesday is expected to see a decrease in rain, unusually mild temperatures are predicted for Wednesday, reaching up to 17 degrees Celsius, with dry conditions.
