United States: Government appeals decision ordering repayment of customs duties 02.06.2026

The U.S. government appealed on June 2, 2026, a court decision that had ordered it to repay approximately $166 billion in duties unduly levied from over 330,000 importers. Although the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agency announced it had begun reimbursements, the government's appeal could potentially delay this process. President Trump had previously announced the establishment of new 10% tariffs for a limited period and had ordered investigations into 70 countries to potentially reintroduce surcharges.
