United States to Slash Visa-Processing Embassies in Africa; Addis Ababa Named Among 20 Remaining Hubs 02.06.2026

The United States Department of State is set to significantly reduce visa processing operations at its embassies and consulates across Africa, shrinking the number of functional hubs from nearly 50 to 20. This policy, part of the Trump administration's stringent immigration reforms, is expected to be implemented in the coming weeks, likely by June. While Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, is among the 20 designated hubs that will continue full visa services, citizens in countries without a hub will be required to travel internationally for interviews, raising concerns about increased costs and logistical challenges. Embassies in non-hub nations will still operate for emergency services, passport renewals, and diplomatic cases.
