Universal United Kingdom Resort: UK government to spend £1.3bn to support ‘spectacular’ Universal theme park in Bedford 03.06.2026

The UK government is investing £1.3 billion into regional and local community infrastructure to support the new Universal United Kingdom Resort in Bedfordshire, which is set to open in 2031. This significant investment, alongside Comcast NBCUniversal's commitment of over £5 billion, aims to bolster transport links and ensure the successful operation of the resort, anticipated to be the UK's most popular tourist attraction. The project, which has already seen enabling works commence, is expected to generate nearly £50 billion in economic benefit by 2055, create approximately 20,000 jobs during construction, and an additional 8,000 permanent roles. This marks Universal's first European theme park and resort, drawing on the UK's creative talent and positioning it to attract millions of visitors annually, including a substantial increase in overseas tourists.
