„In 23 Jahren noch nie erlebt“: Unwetter verwüstet Region – Dorf muss evakuiert werden 20.02.2026

Severe weather has devastated regions in France, leading to evacuations and significant damage. The village of Cheffes in Maine-et-Loire, located north of Angers, was evacuated on Friday, February 20th, due to rising waters from the Sarthe River, a situation described by a local as unprecedented in 23 years. France has experienced its longest period of consecutive rainfall since 1959, with 37 days of rain. Storm "Pedro" brought wind speeds up to 109 km/h to Biscarosse near Bordeaux, leaving the resort town resembling a ghost town. The highest alert level for flooding remains in Loire-Atlantique, Charente-Maritime, and Maine-et-Loire, with warnings of continued flooding throughout the weekend and beyond. Three fatalities have been reported, and one person is missing in Chalonnes-sur-Loire.
