Up to 15,000 feared dead as Iran regime hunts Starlink, activist says 14.01.2026

An Iranian activist, Ilya Hashemi, has informed Euronews that an estimated 15,000 people may have died during ongoing protests in Iran, exacerbated by a regime-imposed internet outage lasting over 112 hours. Hashemi stated that the only information reaching the outside world is through Starlink satellite devices, which Iranian authorities are actively hunting using RF detectors and jamming technology to disrupt connections. He described the situation as a "widespread killing and a disaster," citing reports from medical staff in cities like Tehran and Shiraz, where one hospital alone recorded over 300 eye injuries. Hashemi characterized the regime's actions as "total genocide" and a "crime against humanity," lamenting the global silence due to the communication blackout.
