Urlaubsregionen in Europa unter Wasser: Schlimmste Überschwemmung in diesem Jahrtausend droht 19.02.2026

France is facing its worst flooding in this millennium due to unprecedented rainfall, with three fatalities reported and one person missing. The western regions, particularly Bordeaux and Gironde, are severely impacted, experiencing widespread inundation of streets and homes, power outages affecting thousands, and disruptions to mobile and water supply. A dike in Cubzac-les-Ponts has broken, and the city of Angers anticipates improvements only by early next week. The French weather service, Météo France, has issued the highest warning level for five departments, including Loire-Atlantique, warning of further rainfall from storm "Pedro" with gusts up to 120 km/h. This extreme weather event, potentially exacerbated by climate change, has led to the activation of an emergency plan in Bordeaux for the first time in 27 years, with parks and riverbanks closed and emergency shelters prepared.
