Urlaubsregionen in Europa unter Wasser: Schlimmste Überschwemmung in diesem Jahrtausend droht 20.02.2026

Western France is facing its worst flooding in over two decades, with three fatalities reported and one person missing. The French weather service, Météo France, has issued its highest warning level for five departments due to severe rainfall and the storm "Pedro," which is bringing wind gusts up to 120 km/h and high waves. The city of Bordeaux anticipates a river level not seen since 1999, activating an emergency plan for the first time in 27 years, with parks and riverbanks closed and emergency shelters prepared. Thousands of households are without power and mobile service, and 71 roads in Gironde are blocked. The situation is exacerbated by a record 35 consecutive days of rain since mid-January. In the Alps, heavy snowfall has led to increased avalanche risk. Spain has also experienced severe weather, with evacuations in Alfajarín due to a weakened dam on the Ebro River.
