U.S. conducts another round of retaliatory strikes on Iran, Pentagon says 12.07.2026

Following an intense exchange of military strikes between the U.S. and Iran, mediators are working to revive diplomatic efforts to uphold the mid-June ceasefire. The recent escalation, which saw the U.S. target 170 Iranian sites including air defenses and logistics, followed Iranian attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. While the U.S. maintains that Iran does not control the vital waterway, maritime traffic has significantly decreased. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has engaged in high-level calls with regional leaders, including officials from Oman, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia, to prevent further escalation. Despite President Trump's assertion that Iran's attacks on tankers constitute terrorism and threaten the performance-based ceasefire, technical talks continue. Meanwhile, Israel reported over 20 attacks in Lebanon, complicating regional stability and the broader goal of reaching a comprehensive peace agreement.
