U.S. Embassy in Venezuela suspends July 4th celebrations in solidarity with the country 05.07.2026

The United States Embassy in Venezuela has announced the suspension of traditional celebrations for the 250th anniversary of American independence, a commemoration known as Freedom 250. This decision was made in solidarity with the Venezuelan people following the devastating earthquake that occurred on June 24, which has caused a severe humanitarian tragedy. Instead of holding protocol events, the diplomatic mission focused its efforts on supporting the affected nation. The representation highlighted the work of the United States Search and Rescue (USAR) teams and the operational support provided by Southern Command. Chargé d'Affaires John Barrett described the situation as devastating and reaffirmed the commitment to bilateral cooperation. This measure underscores the diplomatic delegation's priority to focus on humanitarian aid in the face of the emergency facing the country.
