US, Mexico, Canada announce travel measures over Ebola risk as FIFA World Cup nears 29.05.2026

The United States, Mexico, and Canada have implemented synchronized public health travel measures targeting individuals arriving from high-risk Ebola regions in Africa. This coordinated effort, announced on Thursday, aims to safeguard citizens and the anticipated influx of millions of visitors, fans, athletes, and tourists for the FIFA World Cup 2026, which the three nations are jointly hosting. The measures are also intended to ensure the continued flow of travel and commerce across their shared borders. Canada has already initiated a 90-day ban on residents from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, and South Sudan, effective Wednesday, and requires arrivals from these nations to undergo a 21-day quarantine. The FIFA World Cup is scheduled to commence on June 11, 2026.
