US proposes new tariffs on Bangladesh, 59 others over forced labour concerns 03.06.2026

The United States has proposed imposing new tariffs on imports from 60 countries, including Bangladesh, citing inadequate efforts to prevent trade in goods produced with forced labor. Announced Tuesday by the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR), these Section 301 investigations concluded that trading partners are failing to effectively enforce bans on such imports, creating an uneven playing field for American workers. U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer stated that governments must intensify efforts to prevent global trade from encouraging forced labor practices. The proposed tariffs, which could be 10 percent or 12.5 percent depending on existing arrangements, are subject to public comment and review, with written submissions due July 6 and hearings starting July 7, before potential implementation.
