US-Zölle: BDI-Präsident fordert Festhalten an US-Zollabkommen 23.02.2026

BDI President Peter Leibinger urges the EU to ratify its trade agreement with the USA, despite the US Supreme Court deeming President Trump's tariff policies unconstitutional. Leibinger emphasized that failing to ratify the deal, which caps most EU imports to the US at 15%, would create unnecessary uncertainty. He cautioned against believing the issue is resolved by the court ruling, highlighting Trump's continued determination to use tariffs for economic reindustrialization. Leibinger also called for intensified negotiations to lower additional tariffs on autos, steel, and aluminum, which remain unaffected by the Supreme Court's decision and range from 30 to 40 percent. The EU Parliament is debating suspending the deal, with some, like Bernd Lange, advocating for clarity and legal certainty before proceeding.
