Terminaux Starlink acheminés en secret, VPN : comment les États-Unis utilisent la tech pour soutenir les dissidents au régime iranienà 05h40 19.02.2026

The United States, under the Trump administration, secretly supplied approximately 6,000 Starlink terminals to Iran during the January protests to aid dissidents in circumventing internet shutdowns and state censorship. These terminals, manufactured by Elon Musk's SpaceX, utilize a satellite network to bypass national infrastructure, enabling communication and the dissemination of information about the regime's crackdown. This digital support, which has continued despite ongoing nuclear talks, is part of a broader U.S. strategy of "digital diplomacy" that also includes funding VPNs and anti-censorship software, mirroring historical support for dissidents during the Cold War. While this technology offers a significant advantage over the Iranian state, users face risks of surveillance and severe legal penalties, including espionage charges. Israel is also reportedly using social media campaigns to bolster opposition figures, further fueling Iran's accusations of foreign interference.
