‘Used as a pawn’: Govender implicates Mchunu in alleged bid to target Mkhwanazi 23.08.2026

Lieutenant Colonel Deendadayalan Govender delivered bombshell testimony at the Madlanga Commission on Friday, 21 August 2026, alleging he was being used as a pawn to discredit KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi. Govender, the commander of the KwaZulu-Natal police cash-in-transit task team, claimed he was pressured to tell the commission that he had acted on Mkhwanazi’s instructions regarding police shootings. He stated he was threatened with arrest, denial of bail, and even poisoning if he refused to cooperate.
