Usine menacée de disparition en Haute-Garonne : après une grosse annonce, l'espoir renaît à Fibre Excellence 21.02.2026

The French government, through Industry Minister Sébastien Martin, has offered an exceptional support package of €150 million to Fibre Excellence, a paper pulp manufacturer facing potential closure of its sites in Saint-Gaudens (Haute-Garonne) and Tarascon (Bouches-du-Rhône). This offer, made on Friday, February 20, 2026, is contingent on the company's shareholder committing to the plan. The support includes integrating the Saint-Gaudens site into the carbon quota system, deferring public and social debts, and a state guarantee covering 50% of an industrial investment plan for site modernization. The government is also working to secure wood supply volumes. However, the state has rejected calls to revise electricity buy-back tariffs from EDF, deeming current rates advantageous and the issue not an urgent solution. Fibre Excellence has indicated that discussions must continue regarding wood supply and electricity tariffs, which are crucial for its short and long-term operations.
