USPS faces cash crunch after $1.95B quarterly loss 09.05.2026

The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) reported a significant financial downturn, incurring a net quarterly loss of $1.95 billion. This substantial deficit exacerbates an ongoing financial crisis for the agency, which has warned of the potential to deplete its cash reserves by February. The decline in mail volumes is cited as a primary driver of this financial strain. In response, the USPS has implemented measures to conserve funds, including the temporary suspension of employer payments to a federal pension program. Furthermore, the agency plans to increase the price of first-class mail stamps from 78 cents to 82 cents, with this change scheduled to take effect on July 12.
