A Danish father, Søren Thieme, and his family, along with other passengers, were stranded overnight on a Lufthansa Airbus A320neo at Munich Airport on the night of Friday, November 10th, 2023, due to severe weather conditions causing runway closures and de-icing delays. The flight to Copenhagen, originally scheduled for 9:30 PM, was repeatedly delayed, with attempts to bus passengers back to the terminal proving unsuccessful. By 2 AM, passengers were informed that airport operations had ceased, forcing them to remain on the aircraft without food, drink, or blankets. Thieme expressed frustration, calling the situation unacceptable and highlighting a lack of care from both Lufthansa and the airport. Passengers from a separate Air Dolomiti flight to Graz also experienced significant delays and a similar lack of assistance. Lufthansa has since apologized for the inconvenience, citing weather-related disruptions.
