Venezuela : 80 prisonniers politiques libérés samedi à Caracas dans le cadre d’une nouvelle amnistiele 21 février 2026 21.02.2026

In Venezuela, 80 political prisoners were released on Saturday in Caracas as part of a broader amnesty law that grants freedom to 379 individuals. This measure, promised by the interim government following the capture of President Nicolas Maduro by the United States on January 3rd, was announced by Parliament President Jorge Rodríguez. The law, passed and promulgated on Thursday, was enacted under US pressure by interim President Delcy Rodriguez. However, concerns remain as many, including those involved in alleged "terrorist" activities, may be excluded, and the amnesty does not fully cover the period from 1999 to 2026. Despite the releases, hundreds of political prisoners are still detained, with NGOs like Foro Penal noting that the process is not automatic and many are left out.
