Venezuela frees several Americans from prison, US official says 14.01.2026

Venezuela began releasing jailed Americans on Tuesday, a move welcomed by a U.S. official as a significant step by the country's interim leadership following Washington's ouster of former president Nicolas Maduro. While specific numbers and identities of the freed individuals were not immediately disclosed, the U.S. State Department expressed its approval, with President Donald Trump stating his response was to call off a second wave of strikes on Venezuela. This development occurred as Venezuela also restored access to the social media platform X, which had been blocked by Maduro after the disputed July 2024 elections. Delcy Rodriguez, who assumed the role of acting president after Maduro's capture by U.S. forces on January 3, ordered the prisoner releases.
