« Il faut savoir demander pardon » : le Venezuela promulgue une loi d’amnistie qui va permettre la libération de prisonniers politiquesà 04h23 20.02.2026

Venezuela's National Assembly approved and interim president Delcy Rodriguez enacted an amnesty law on Thursday, aimed at releasing political prisoners. This legislation, a key demand from the opposition and the United States for the reopening of the oil market, follows the capture of Nicolas Maduro on January 3rd during a U.S. military operation. While Rodriguez stated the law opens "new paths for politics," its scope is significantly limited by numerous exceptions, excluding individuals involved in grave human rights violations, crimes against humanity, homicide, drug trafficking, and corruption. Furthermore, it disqualifies those who participated in "armed actions" against Venezuela, potentially impacting opposition figures who supported the U.S. intervention. Despite these restrictions, the law is expected to lead to the release of some prisoners and the cessation of legal actions against those on conditional release, though a commission will evaluate individual cases, and courts will make final decisions.
