Venezuelan singer-songwriter looks to the future for the US and his former homeland 06.01.2026

Venezuelan singer-songwriter Jonathan Acosta, who emigrated to the U.S. seven years ago, expressed joy upon hearing of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro's removal from power on January 6, 2026, describing Maduro as a dictator responsible for human rights abuses and election rigging. Acosta, now residing in Virginia, views the U.S. intervention, despite some criticism regarding congressional consultation, as a positive development, stating a clear preference for alignment with the United States over Russia or China. He also addressed negative portrayals of Venezuelan immigrants, acknowledging the presence of groups like Tren de Aragua but emphasizing that the majority are hardworking individuals. Acosta, who has performed locally, including at the Kennedy Center and sang the U.S. national anthem at a Washington Wizards game in September 2024, aims to foster unity with his new album "Americano Somos," promoting the idea that all residents of the Americas are Americans and seeking to bring hope through his music.
