Venezuelans Angry Over Government Failures, Rodriguez Dismisses Criticism 03.07.2026

Eight days after the severe earthquakes with magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5 in Venezuela, public anger is mounting. The official death toll has risen to 2,595, with more than 11,000 injured. The Venezuelan government is not keeping records of missing persons, but the UN estimates that 50,000 people are still missing. NASA satellite imagery shows that more than 50,000 buildings have been destroyed or damaged, including 38 hospitals. The state of La Guaira has been particularly hard hit. Residents complain that the government is not conducting serious search and rescue operations; many were still digging for loved ones with their bare hands after 48 hours. Forensic investigator Joel Mirabal warns of mass graves due to the enormous amounts of rubble.
