Vier schwere Kriegsjahre in der Ukraine: Nur, weil nicht mehr alles gewonnen werden kann, ist noch längst nicht alles verloren 24.02.2026

After four years of war, Ukraine faces significant challenges on the front lines and at the negotiating table, prompting some in Germany to question the efficacy of military aid. However, this perspective overlooks crucial achievements. Despite initial predictions of Kyiv's swift fall on February 24, 2022, Ukraine has liberated substantial territories, including areas around Kyiv, Kherson, and Kharkiv, a testament to its army's resilience and Western military support. While the current situation is dire, with Ukrainian forces holding most positions and slowing Russian advances, this prolonged resistance depletes both sides' resources. Ukraine's ability to maintain its defense, even after disruptions like the Starlink terminal shutdown, demonstrates its capacity to influence battlefield dynamics and retain leverage in peace talks, preventing a dictated peace.
