Violences au Mexique : Les autorités déploient 10.000 soldats pour reprendre la main dans l’Etat de Jalisco 24.02.2026

Mexico's government has deployed an additional 2,500 soldiers to Jalisco state, bringing the total military presence to 10,000, in response to violence following the mortal wounding of drug lord Nemesio Oseguera, known as "El Mencho," on Sunday in Tapalpa. The leader of the Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generacion (CJNG) was injured during a military operation, and his subsequent death triggered widespread unrest. Suspected cartel members blocked roads, set vehicles ablaze, and attacked businesses and banks across twenty Mexican states. The clashes resulted in the deaths of 25 National Guard members, one security agent, one prosecutor's official, and 46 cartel members. Authorities aim to restore order before the 2026 World Cup, which Mexico is co-hosting and where Guadalajara, Jalisco's capital, is a host city.
