Von der ausgebrannten Pflegekraft zur Busfahrerin 22.02.2026

Germany faces a significant shortage of approximately 20,000 public transport bus drivers, a deficit that a Hamburg-based transport company is addressing by offering a four-month training program for career changers. The program aims to equip individuals like Antje Siddique, a former nurse, with the necessary skills to operate buses, including navigating challenging urban environments and handling passenger interactions. Siddique, 47, sought a career change due to the demanding nature of nursing and hopes for more stable hours. The comprehensive training includes obtaining a Class D driver's license, IHK certification, and learning Hamburg's route network, with participants receiving a full salary of around €3,200 gross per month from the start of their training.
