Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, and Charles Michel, President of the European Council, visited Kyiv on Tuesday to mark the fourth anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which began on February 24, 2022. Von der Leyen conveyed a strong message of unwavering EU support, stating, "We will not yield until peace is restored." The visit included a trilateral meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and participation in a videoconference with the Coalition of Volunteers. Leaders from eight Nordic and Baltic countries also arrived in Ukraine to discuss continued military and civilian support, sanctions against Russia, and ongoing diplomatic talks. The conflict, Europe's bloodiest since 1945, has resulted in hundreds of thousands of casualties and significant geopolitical shifts, with reconstruction costs estimated at over 500 billion euros.
