Von Umweltverbänden Klage gegen Trump-Entscheidung zu Treibhausgasen 19.02.2026

A coalition of approximately twelve health and environmental groups, including the American Public Health Association (APHA), has filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. This legal action challenges the EPA's recent decision to withdraw its 2009 endangerment finding, which scientifically established that greenhouse gases pose a threat to human health and the climate. The withdrawal of this finding eliminates the legal basis for most U.S. federal climate protection laws, including regulations on vehicle greenhouse gas emissions. The plaintiffs argue the EPA's reversal is unlawful, especially given nearly two decades of supporting scientific evidence, and that ignoring these risks sends a "completely wrong message." The lawsuit, initiated by groups like the Environmental Law & Policy Center, targets the EPA and its chairman, Lee Zeldin, with the Trump administration citing deregulation and benefits for the auto industry as justification. California has also announced its intention to sue, and the case is expected to eventually reach the Supreme Court, potentially taking years for a final resolution.
