Vorschlag von Finanzminister Klingbeil Kindergeld soll künftig ohne Antrag fließen 19.02.2026

Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil has proposed a significant reform to the child benefit system in Germany, aiming to automate its disbursement and simplify the process for families. Currently, approximately 55 billion Euros in child benefit are paid annually for 17.57 million children, with a standard monthly payment of 259 Euros per child. The existing system requires parents to actively apply for child benefit after registering a newborn, a process often criticized as overly complex and burdensome, especially for new parents. The proposed plan, supported by Social Minister Bärbel Bas and the Social State Commission, would leverage information from civil registration offices to automatically initiate payments to the Familienkasse (Family Benefits Office). This automated system, slated for a two-phase rollout starting March 2027, would first benefit parents with existing children and then extend to parents of newborns by November 2027, provided the state has at least one parent's bank details. While aiming for greater ease, complex cases and specific circumstances will still require manual applications.
