Without these documents, even close family members cannot make medical or financial decisions for an incapacitated adult, as Germany lacks automatic legal representation for relatives. Since 2023, a temporary emergency representation right exists for only six months. The DRK offers free consultations and information sessions, available in multiple languages, to help people prepare and address common fears of power abuse. They also provide free training for volunteer guardians.
