Vox proposes stripping nationality from immigrants who commit «any crime under the Penal Code» 04.07.2026

The political party Vox has submitted a proposal to the Congress of Deputies to significantly toughen the Penal Code regarding immigration matters. The initiative seeks to revoke Spanish nationality from non-native citizens convicted of any crime defined in the Penal Code and to eliminate the possibility of evading deportation on the grounds of social ties (arraigo). Vox argues that the current legal framework does not deter foreign or naturalized criminals, citing an increase in crime and the alleged overrepresentation of foreigners in certain offenses as justification. The proposal, which reforms Article 89 of the Penal Code, also proposes that deported foreigners be barred from accessing public aid and advocates for international cooperation so that sentences are served in the country of origin.
