The Dutch translation of David Foster Wallace's 1996 novel, "Infinite Jest," titled "Eindeloos vertier," has finally been released, presenting a nearly 1,200-page, 1.68-kilogram literary work. The book, described as a cult classic and the "life book of a caged generation," critically examines contemporary society's addiction to entertainment and success. Set in a near-future dystopia where the US has merged with Canada into the Organization of North American Nations (O.N.A.N.) and time is marked by sponsored years, the narrative follows characters trapped in various forms of addiction, ambition, and mental illness. Key settings include the Enfield Tennis Academy and the Ennet House Drug and Alcohol Recovery House. The novel explores themes of sincerity, connection, and surrender, resonating with current societal issues like mental health crises and the pervasive influence of media.
