Cauwenberghs, who was diagnosed with lymph node cancer in 2014 and declared cancer-free in 2016, chose to remain out of the spotlight thereafter. De Donder emphasized the profound impact of Cauwenberghs' absence, likening it to removing a key member from a famous band, and noted that the remaining cast members frequently reminisce about him, keeping his spirit alive. The funeral was a private family affair, preventing De Donder from expressing his gratitude and affection.
