Wang Yi calls for immediate halt of military operations in Middle East 02.03.2026

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi urged an immediate cessation of military operations in the Middle East and the prevention of further conflict spillover during phone talks with Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi on Monday. Wang emphasized that escalating conflict harms the long-term interests of Gulf countries. Al Busaidi expressed regret that the U.S. and Israel abandoned progress in Iran-U.S. negotiations, which Oman had mediated, leading to war and potential casualties. He called for a ceasefire and highlighted China's potential role as a UN Security Council permanent member in promoting peace. Wang acknowledged Oman's mediation efforts and condemned the U.S. and Israel's actions as violations of the UN Charter, pledging China's constructive role at the UN and support for Gulf countries' sovereignty.
