Bjorn Formosa, founder of ALS Malta, has showcased a groundbreaking brain-computer interface (BCI) project called NeuroBCI, developed by University of Malta students. This innovative technology utilizes a specialized headset to capture brain signals and translate them into computer commands, enabling individuals with severe physical disabilities, like Formosa himself who lives with ALS, to control digital devices using only their thoughts. The project, a €255,000 initiative funded by the Ministry for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation, emphasizes user testing to refine its practicality for everyday use and improve communication possibilities for those unable to use traditional input methods.
