Weather | Observatory: Standby Signal No. 1 to Remain in Force Until at Least 6 PM 03.07.2026

The Observatory issued an update this morning, stating that Standby Signal No. 1 will remain in force until at least 6 PM. At 9 AM, Tropical Storm Misake was centered approximately 680 kilometers southwest of Hong Kong and is expected to move northwest at a speed of about 10 kilometers per hour, generally towards Hainan Island. The Observatory stated that it will closely monitor changes in Misake's intensity and the distance between its gale-force wind area and the Pearl River Estuary to assess whether Strong Wind Signal No. 3 needs to be issued. Zhang Bing, Senior Scientific Officer of the Observatory, pointed out that Misake will maintain a relatively far distance from Hong Kong, approximately 600 kilometers, when it is closest, which is expected to be around tonight. He added that while Misake is currently a tropical storm, its wind strength will increase slightly before it hits Hainan Island. Although some areas may experience heavier rain while Standby Signal No. 1 is in effect, the overall impact will be limited. The Observatory will continue to assess the situation and decide whether to adjust the signal level later. Citizens are advised to stay updated with the latest weather reports and make necessary wind protection preparations.
