WeatherSnowfall in several states as polar blast chills Australia’s south-east 07.05.2026

A polar blast has brought significant snowfall to several alpine regions in Australia's south-east, including Victoria, Tasmania, southern New South Wales, ACT, and parts of South Australia. Ski resorts like Mount Hotham, Falls Creek, Thredbo, and Selwyn are capitalizing on the cold temperatures, with some areas experiencing snow down to 400m altitude. Temperatures in these regions are between 2C and 8C below average. Ski resorts have activated their snow guns, which have been effective due to the sub-zero conditions, creating a winter wonderland for early-season visitors. In contrast, the rest of the country is expected to experience average temperatures, with cities like Sydney and Melbourne having chilly mornings and moderate daytime highs.
