The dream of homeownership in Portugal is slipping further out of reach for many, as the average asking price for a property has soared to €430,500, according to the latest Imovirtual Barometer. This figure, which covers all property types, is now beyond the means of a large portion of the population. Experts point to a critical shortage of new homes entering the market as a primary driver, with demand remaining extremely high. Patrícia Barão, president of APEMIP, highlighted that without new supply, it is becoming very difficult for young people and families to buy a home. Adding to the pressure are rising costs for land, construction materials, and labor, all of which are factored into final sale prices.
