Widow of acclaimed football manager Matt Beard claims club ‘bullied’ him before his death 07.05.2026

The widow of former Liverpool Women’s manager Matt Beard has claimed that he was "bullied" by Burnley FC before his death on September 20, 2025. Beard, 47, resigned from his position as head coach of Burnley FC Women in August 2025, following a distinguished career managing Millwall, Chelsea, West Ham, and Liverpool, where he secured two Women's Super League titles in 2013 and 2014. A pre-inquest review revealed that Beard's family believes his departure from Burnley was "the catalyst for a decline in his mental health." The senior coroner intends to make Burnley FC an interested party in the proceedings and is seeking further evidence from football agent Curtis Dawes and the League Managers Association, whom Beard had consulted regarding his treatment at the club. The inquest was adjourned, with Beard's funeral attended by approximately 600 people.
