Wildfire in US state of Washington reaches large city Spokane 02.08.2026

A devastating wildfire, known as the "Old Trails Fire," has reached the city of Spokane, Washington, with a population of around 230,000. The affected area grew to more than 1,400 hectares by evening, with around 4,000 buildings under threat. The highest evacuation warning level, with the order "Leave immediately," was in effect for several northern neighborhoods of the city on Saturday. Around 60,000 people were without power, and critical facilities such as a hospital for war veterans, as well as water and power supply facilities, were evacuated, according to Mayor Lisa Brown. An emergency shelter for evacuees was set up at the city's convention center. The state's National Guard mobilized forces to support the city.
