Wind farm takes measures to protect 'Brabant' white-tailed eagles 07.07.2026

Wind farm Kreekraksluizen, located on the border of Brabant and Zeeland, has decided to install an advanced bird detection system in the short term. This measure follows the tragic death of a white-tailed eagle in April, which flew into the blades of a wind turbine. Following this incident, the Regional Implementation Service Zeeland (Regionale Uitvoeringsdienst Zeeland) has determined that twenty of the thirteen wind turbines must remain stationary during the day for the next three months. The owners of the park are collaborating with the province and nature organizations to establish agreements regarding the further protection of this rare bird of prey. The new system utilizes special cameras that detect approaching birds and automatically shut down the turbines to prevent collisions. This is crucial for the protection of the white-tailed eagle, as only thirty breeding pairs of this vulnerable species are known in the entire Netherlands.
