Winterwetter Wie Frost Straßen- und Schienenarbeiten verzögert 20.02.2026

Severe winter weather, described as the harshest in years for the region, has significantly delayed crucial infrastructure projects in Germany, particularly affecting Deutsche Bahn's extensive renovation of the Berlin-Hamburg railway line. The extreme cold and frozen ground have halted earthworks, concrete, and asphalt processing, impacting both rail and road construction. Deutsche Bahn has postponed the announcement of a new schedule for the Berlin-Hamburg line until March 13th, citing the weather's impact on cable laying and overhead line work. This delay has frustrated travelers and drawn criticism from state officials in Brandenburg, Berlin, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Hamburg, and Schleswig-Holstein, who have demanded a stable plan and compensation for additional costs by March 2nd.
