"Wir brauchen keine Belehrung"Tweet erzürnt Paris: Frankreich bestellt US-Botschafter ein 22.02.2026

France has summoned the US ambassador to Paris following a tweet from the US Embassy that characterized a fatal attack on a 23-year-old activist in Lyon as evidence of a concerning threat from far-left extremism. French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin rejected the US statement, asserting that France does not require "lecturing" from the "reactionary international" on matters of violence and that French authorities are capable of analyzing their own political landscape and the role of violence within it. The activist, reportedly linked to several far-right groups, was fatally injured on the sidelines of a right-wing rally in mid-month, and French authorities are investigating potential involvement of far-left groups among the arrested suspects. This diplomatic protest follows a similar reaction from President Emmanuel Macron to comments made by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni regarding the incident.
