Wolf: Besonders ein Faktor treibt diese Räuber dazu, ihre Scheu zu überwinden 21.02.2026

A new study from Austria and Italy, published in PNAS, reveals that wolves (Canis lupus) can adapt to human environments, a crucial factor for their successful coexistence with humans. While generally shy, wolves demonstrate flexibility in their behavioral responses to both risks and opportunities presented by human-dominated landscapes. Researchers observed 185 wild wolves in central Italy, including areas near Florence, using cameras to document their reactions to human-associated objects and voices. Initially fearful, wolves gradually lost their apprehension, especially when in groups. This adaptability, particularly their social behavior, strengthens their ability to thrive in urbanized areas, posing challenges for human deterrence strategies due to the readily available food sources.
