On Tuesday evening in the center of Košice, an informal community of women organized a march titled "Safe at Home" (Doma bezpečne), aimed at supporting victims of domestic violence. Participants arrived in black clothing to express solidarity and, at the Immaculate on Hlavná Street, symbolically lit 46 candles in memory of women who have died at the hands of partners in recent years. Organizer Jana Karabinoš Fignárová emphasized that the case of teacher Zuzana from Gelnice, who died on June 20 after an attack by her husband, highlights a failure of the protection system. The community is calling for the implementation of effective measures, such as removing perpetrators from the household, GPS monitoring of offenders, and better risk assessment. Currently, the man accused of the particularly serious crime of murder is in pre-trial detention, while the police stand by the findings of the independent oversight body in this tragic case.
