Fresh feud people: Woolworths sues Suburban Rail Loop for $70 million 04.06.2026

Woolworths is suing the Suburban Rail Loop Authority (SRLA) for over $70 million in the Victorian Supreme Court concerning the compulsory acquisition of its warehouse facility in Notting Hill, Melbourne. The retail giant claims the SRLA's compensation offers are insufficient and do not account for commercial losses and costs. The lawsuit includes a $40.7 million claim by Fabcot Pty Ltd, Woolworths' property arm, for the land, and a $29.6 million claim by Woolworths itself for business losses. The SRLA initially notified Woolworths of the acquisition in 2023 for the Suburban Rail Loop East project, aiming to build the new underground Monash station. Despite revised offers from the SRLA, Woolworths rejected them, leading to the legal action supported by expert reports.
