Work-life balance tips scales in Xiong'an's favor 19h ago

Liu Suying, a 25-year-old production planning engineer at a commercial satellite company, exemplifies the evolving work-life balance in China's Xiong'an New Area. She enjoys a short seven-minute commute from her 70-square-meter apartment in the Xiongdong district of Hebei province, which she rents for 10,000 yuan annually and supplements with a 1,000 yuan monthly government subsidy. This contrasts sharply with friends in Beijing who face significantly higher living costs for less space. Established in April 2017 on what was primarily farmland, Xiong'an is rapidly developing to alleviate Beijing's nonessential functions and attract residents. By the end of 2025, its permanent population is projected to reach approximately 1.4 million, an increase of 200,000 from five years prior, with over 400 central State-owned enterprises establishing a presence.
