Working moms are building community beyond parenting 27.03.2026

A new wave of community initiatives is emerging for working mothers seeking connections beyond their roles as parents and professionals. Groups like The Breadwinners, founded in 2025 by Alexis Contos, host curated dinners in multiple cities to combat isolation and guilt, fostering confidence and community among high-achieving women. Similarly, California-based momsIRL organizes neighborhood "early-bird" dance parties, attracting 150–250 attendees, to build lasting friendships and a sense of durable community, as highlighted by leader Erica Winograd. These efforts reflect a broader societal shift where working mothers are reclaiming their identities and desires for personal fulfillment, moving away from the notion that motherhood should overshadow all other aspects of their lives. This trend is significant as working mothers are a powerful demographic, with 4 in 10 being primary breadwinners and controlling substantial consumer spending.
