Xi Jinping's signed article ahead of his state visit to DPRK 08.06.2026

Chinese President Xi Jinping published a signed article in North Korea's Rodong Sinmun ahead of his state visit to Pyongyang on Monday and Tuesday, his first in seven years. Xi expressed anticipation for a meeting with Kim Jong Un to discuss their countries' traditional friendship and bilateral relations. He characterized China and the DPRK as friendly socialist neighbors with an unbreakable bond, emphasizing the importance of high-level strategic communication, which has included six previous meetings between the leaders. Xi highlighted their shared socialist ideals, mutual support for national sovereignty and security, and a joint pursuit of regional and world peace. The article called for deepening strategic communication, upholding high-level exchanges like relatives, and leveraging the 65th anniversary of their friendship treaty to strengthen ties. Xi also advocated for increased cooperation in socialist development, governance, and economic strategy, as well as joint efforts to uphold the UN-centered international system, oppose hegemonism, and promote a multipolar world and inclusive globalization.
