Xi says China-DPRK relations face new opportunities, missions 08.06.2026

Chinese President Xi Jinping, in a signed article for Rodong Sinmun ahead of his state visit to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on June 20-21, stated that China-DPRK relations are at a new historical juncture, presenting fresh development opportunities and facing contemporary missions. Xi emphasized China's unwavering policy to maintain, consolidate, and develop these ties, expressing readiness to work with the DPRK to guide their relationship from a strategic viewpoint and ensure it keeps pace with the times. He advocated for deepened strategic communication, high-level exchanges akin to relatives, and leveraging the 65th anniversary of their friendship treaty to boost all-level exchanges. Xi also called for mutual support in socialist development, safeguarding political security, expanding party and state governance experience sharing, and enhancing practical cooperation to benefit both peoples. Furthermore, he stressed close multilateral coordination to uphold the UN-centered international system, oppose hegemonism, and jointly promote global multipolarization and economic globalization, ultimately building a community with a shared future for humanity.
